AARTIVIJAY GUPTA PAID TRIBUTE TO THE GLORY OF INDIA WITH HER “I LOVE INDIA” COLLECTION AT LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK/SUMMER RESORT 2013
Mumbai, 23rd March 2013: Bringing together the iconic images of her beloved country, Aartivijay Gupta’s collection called “I Love India” was a fashionable patriotic tribute at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013. Creating the amazing prints inspired by Indian elements like the postal stamps, Indian tiger, the Indian aircraft, coal train, space ship, map of India and even the Father of the Nation- Mahatma Gandhi; the garments were colourful and trendy as they appeared in quick succession on the ramp. Beautiful lush raw silk and pure silk Khadi were blended with silks to recreate silhouettes from Indian history with a cultural twist.
A colourful opening featured a long sleeved plunge neck sheath with wide flat collar; while the giant Peter Pan version of the same appeared for the Jumpsuit too. Peplum blouses with lapels, the double breasted jumpsuit and the men’s wear with two-button jackets with the assorted images revealed a great print idea. The saris with prints of Indian legendary heroes or the telephone looked unusual when teamed with long sleeve blouses. Aartivijay’s show stoppers were the very charming budding Bollywood actor- Misti Mukherjee in a dual map print sari and the dashing TV and Bollywood star, Rohit Roy who looked debonair in a Gandhi print two-button jacket. After her hot selling “I Love My Doodle Book”, which turned into a rage last season with Indian and international buyers; Aartivijay Gupta’s “I love India” will surely fly off the racks once again during the coming season.

DEBASHRI SAMANTA – EMPHASISING WEAVES
Mumbai, 22nd March 2013: The Zovi Gen Next show on the opening day of Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2013 was one of the most awaited happenings. Crowds filled the Ballroom of Hotel Grand Hyatt to eagerly witness the creations of the six chosen designers who were all set to be the stars of the future. Their creativity was presented in a slickly styled show to the beat of lively music by ace designer, Aki Narula.
Using the gorgeous weaves of West Bengal, designer Debashri Samanta proved her expertise in creating trendy outfits for the 21st century multi-faceted women. Called “The Black Swan”, Debashri’s inspirations were the fabulous yarns of her beautiful state, which she used creatively for her finely constructed garments. Using only handloom cottons, the sharply cut jackets, tops and stylish bottom wear were enhanced with Kantha, the delicate craft of West Bengal. The intricate silhouettes of the creations as they floated down the ramp in strong colours of bright tangerine, fuchsia and blue were a visual delight. The opening entry was a long lean midi with bolero and tasseled shoulders, the draped asymmetric skirt, and the blouse with the emphasis on the extended shoulders proved interesting. The lean pants with a one-sleeve blouse, the palazzo/gown and double waistcoat with layered skirt were the highlights of the collection. It was a great debut with an innovative line from Debashri Samanta.
